Description

1974 JAGUAR XKE ROADSTER Numbers-Matching 5.3-liter V12 Classic & Beautiful! Heritage certificate available upon purchase. The last series in the E-Type's production run, Series 3 cars featured various visual changes and mechanical upgrades. Visually, S3 cars feature a slatted front grill, flared wheel arches, and quad exhaust pipes. Mechanically, standard power steering and up-graded brakes. Additionally, this was the only E-Type offered with Jaguar's V12 engine. The E-type series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it appeared in the automotive scene in 1961! As each new generation was improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to the buyers after the prestigious luxury sports car from England! This included improved brakes, better suspension, superior interior comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement engines! By 1971, the short wheelbase offering was long gone in favor of a quality ride, and power steering was now a standard feature. The Series III was born with a V-12 with quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetion under the bonnet, and only 7,990 convertibles were produced over the entire four-year production of the Series III. It is hard to imagine the E-Type could have ever seemed anything but revolutionary. But in the late 1960’s, it was nearly a decade old and starting to be dated to sports car buyers. Newer, more modern cars were hitting the market and Jaguar needed a significant refresh to inject some new life into the E-Type – to meet new safety and emissions standards and keep up with the performance gains of its rivals. The changes were significant enough to earn the E-type a new name: XKE. It was longer, lower, wider and roomier than the series 2 it replaced. Body styles were reduced to two choices – a 2+2 coupe and the beautiful open two-seat roadster. The twin-cam inline six XK engine was gone, and in its place was a new all-alloy, single overhead cam V-12 displacing 5.3 liters and delivering 245 horsepower. The V-12 transformed the outgoing six into an incredibly smooth, svelte, luxurious GT. This last year's production 1974 Jaguar XKE SrIII V-12 convertible has; an extremely desirable original four-speed manual transmission, original air conditioning, original chrome wire wheels, and 33,150 actual miles, everything is original with the exception of the carpet, paint and tires, we even have the original radio not installed. Originally delivered Silver with factory Black Connelly hides. This car was minor cosmetically restored. Standard equipment: fully independent suspension, four Stromberg 1.75 c.i. side draft carburetors, 5.3 liter V-12 engine. This is the last year of production and USA delivery it has the factory Nordic black overriders to meet local 5 mph (8 km/h) impact regulations. This is a documented numbers-matching example, confirmed by a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate
